Endodontics or Root canal treatment is a procedure by which we try to save
patient’s natural tooth as a foundation for chewing and biting for years to come.
Endodontic treatment is necessary when the pulp (inside of the tooth after Enamel and Dentin, where soft tissue, blood vessels and nerves exist,) becomes infected or inflamed. There are different causes for the pulp to get in trouble: deep decay, repeated dental procedures, cracks or a chip in the tooth or even a blow to the tooth without any visible damage could cause enough problems to the pulp to necessitate Root Canal Therapy. Signs of pulp damage include pain, prolonged sensitivity to heat and cold, discoloration of the tooth and swelling and tenderness in the nearby gums. Sometimes, there are no symptoms. We will remove inflamed or infected pulp, carefully clean and shape the inside of the tooth and then fill and seal the space. In most cases the tooth will require a crown to be protected and get restored to full function.
Endodontic procedure is performed to relieve the tooth from pain and discomfort however, after the treatment the tooth might feel sensitive for a few days. This discomfort can be relieved with over-the-counter or prescription medications.
